LST Team Completes Third Annual Summer AV Refresh, Modernizing Campus Classrooms

UNC Charlotte’s Learning Space Technology (LST) team has completed its third consecutive Summer AV Refresh Project, a major effort to modernize the university’s learning environments. This year, the team focused on replacing outdated audio-visual equipment in 46 registrar-controlled classrooms across campus.
The initiative reflects LST’s ongoing commitment to enhancing teaching and learning in the university’s 110-coded classrooms. A recent comprehensive study found that many existing AV systems were approaching or had exceeded their expected lifespans. By proactively upgrading this technology, the LST team ensures faculty and students have access to modern, reliable tools that support effective instruction and student engagement.
Faculty Encouraged to Explore New Technology Before Fall
With the fall semester approaching, LST encourages faculty teaching in these refreshed classrooms to visit their assigned spaces before classes begin. Exploring the new AV setups ahead of time will help instructors feel confident and minimize potential first-week technical challenges.
“We want our instructors to feel confident using the technology,” said Steven Skelton, Director of Learning Space Technology. “We encourage everyone to familiarize themselves with the upgraded equipment before students return. Our Classroom Support Team will be ready to assist with walkthroughs and training as needed.”
Faculty are invited to contact LST to schedule a classroom consultation or request technical assistance.
Targeted Upgrades in Key Campus Buildings
The 2025 refresh has concentrated on high-traffic academic buildings including EPIC, Fretwell, Grigg Hall, Rowe, and Woodward Hall. Installation work began on May 12 and is on schedule to conclude by August 8.
