The Benefits of Early Treatment and Prevention of Childhood Obesity in Offspring Whose Mothers Were Diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes: An Integrative Review

An integrative review of the literature was conducted to determine if offspring born to mothers who are diagnosed with gestational diabetes (GDM) are at an increased risk for childhood obesity (CO) between the ages of 0-6 years old as compared to offspring of mothers that were not diagnosed with GDM.

Improving Surgical Patient Outcomes Through the Utilization of Forced-air Warming Devices to Regulate Core Body Temperature
Presenter: Caroline Klimowski, UNC Charlotte School of Nursing
The purpose of the current systematic review was to determine the effectiveness of forced-air warming versus competing warming devices, as well as explore the effect of forced-air warming on surgical patient outcomes, specifically surgical site infections as well as patient comfort.

The Influence of Different Organizational Factors on Certified Nursing Assistant Job Satisfaction
Presenter: Bailey Nelson, UNC Charlotte School of Nursing
The results of this study provide insight to administration on how to best support and retain CNAs within their specific facility. Retention strategies focused on teamwork, CNA recognition, and managerial support are more effective in non-acute care settings while strategies focused on CNA input are effective in acute care settings.

About the Symposium
The Gamma Iota Chapter of the Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI) Nursing Honor Society and the UNC Charlotte School of Nursing Research and Scholarship Council will host an in-person symposium on Thursday, April 20, 2023 from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm in the UNC Charlotte Popp Martin Student Union Room 340.
During the first hour, Dr. Susan Letvak will present on Research Supporting Health and Safety in the Nursing Workforce. Poster presentations will be presented by students during the second hour. Attendees will then reconvene at the end of the symposium to present awards to the top 3 presentations.

The UNC Charlotte School of Nursing is an approved provider of nursing continuing nursing professional development by the North Carolina Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
Participants must attend at least 90% of the event and complete a post-event evaluation survey to receive credit.
Guest Faculty
Dr. Susan Letvak, PhD, RN, FAAN, is the Eloise R. Lewis Excellence Professor at the UNC Greensboro School of Nursing. Dr. Letvak has over twenty years of experience conducting research on the health and safety of the nursing workforce, including quality and safety of patient care. As a veteran of the U.S. Navy Reserves, Dr. Letvak serves on the Expert Panel for Military and Veterans Health for the American Academy of Nursing. She is also a member of the American Holistic Nurses Association and serves as an Associate Editor of the Journal of Holistic Nursing.

Call for Poster Abstracts
Posters presenters are encouraged to present in person at the Research Symposium on April 20. However, for those who are not able to attend in person (i.e. distance education students), posters may be presented online via a voiced-over PowerPoint presentation. Online presentations will not be included in continuing education credit; however, students may wish to have the opportunity to present in this virtual format. For either presentation format, in-person or virtual, all poster presentations must be submitted via the Google Form.
Through the online Google registration form, a short bio for each name on the project and an abstract must be submitted for acceptance. Abstracts must include a title, student/names names, professor/faculty name, program name and a 250-word limit description including the purpose, background, methods, results, conclusion, and keywords. Registrants should have all criteria ready prior to submitting via the Google Form. For virtual only poster presenters, the voiced-over PowerPoint should also be submitted at the time of the abstract submission.
Poster Registration Guidelines
All poster exhibits must be registered using the Google Form by 4/1/23 to be considered for selection:

- Applicants should be available to present during the in-person presentation on 4/20/23.
- For distance education students who cannot be in person on 4/20/23, an option to present via a voiced-over PowerPoint on the website will be offered. The voiced- over PPT file must be submitted at the time of registering (by 4/1/23).
- Due to room space, poster presentations are limited to the first 25 registrants.
- Only those students who have registered via the Google Form and who have received a confirmation email will be able to attend the Research Symposium.
- All poster presenters will receive a registration link for the symposium. Students and poster presenters may register at no charge.
Poster Guidelines
- For poster layout, use a PowerPoint template provided by your faculty member and/or faculty advisor.
- The optimal size for posters is 3×4 feet.
- UNC Charlotte students may opt to print their poster via REPROS University Print services for a nominal fee: https://aux.charlotte.edu/copy-print
- Table will be available for posters. Easels will NOT be provided.
- Posters may be clipped to or pasted on a trifold presentation board. Trifold presentation boards (3×4 feet) will be available for use during the event (clipped posters only).

- 4/10/23: Poster registrants are notified of acceptance/denial.
